What to Wear Under a Corset
What are Corset Liners
Corset liners are typically tube tops designed to be worn under your corset. Corset liners are often made of spandex or cotton. Although corset liners are not required to wear with a corset, a corset liner will help preserve your corset and keep it clean.
Why Wear a Corset Liner
Wearing a corset directly against your skin is not advised when possible. Your skin naturally emits sweat and oils throughout the day, which your corset will absorb. To keep your corset fresh and clean, you should always try to wear another garment under your corset. A corset liner designed specifically to fit under your corset.
Sometimes a corset can leave temporary marks on your waist when tightly laced. This is sometimes referred to as skin creasing. The corset boning is often the culprit of these marks left on your skin. A corset liner will help smooth out these edges while you wear your corset. This helps reduce these lines from appearing. You can further reduce skin creasing by using moisturizer to keep your skin hydrated.
You can optionally wear an undershirt or tank top with your corset instead of a corset liner. However, undershirts and tank tops can sometimes be bulky and hard to hide under certain dresses and outfits. For example, a halter top or strapless dress would never be able to hide a tank top. This is why a corset liner’s tub top design is ideal to wear under a corset.
Should I Wear a Corset Liner With a Mesh Corset?
Mesh corsets are more breathable than other fabrics and allow greater air circulation while wearing. This is great for keeping yourself cooler in warmer environments, however this doesn’t prevent your corset from absorbing your body’s natural oils and sweats. We advise that you still wear a corset liner while wearing a mesh corset. Many women find a nude colored corset liner that matches their skin to be ideal.
Is Wearing a Corset Liner Required?
Although wearing a corset liner is suggested for prolonging the life and cleanliness of your corset, it is not required. Wearing another garment under your corset can act as a substitute. Or if the occasion calls for it, wearing your corset directly against your skin is totally acceptable.
